NUITRITION

We are creating a situation to reduce malnutrition among women and children in the communities we serve by strengthening essential OTP and FSP programs and focusing on awareness and stabilization to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and the hosting community, through

Supplementary Feeding Programs (SFP): Provide additional food supplies to vulnerable groups such as pregnant and lactating women, children under five, and the elderly to prevent malnutrition.

Outpatient Therapeutic Programs (OTP): Offer treatment for severely malnourished children without medical complications, including therapeutic feeding and regular health check-ups.

General Food Distribution: Ensure regular distribution of staple foods and micronutrient-fortified foods to both IDPs and the hosting community to meet their daily nutritional needs.

Nutrition Education and Awareness: Conduct community workshops and training sessions on balanced diets, breastfeeding practices, hygiene, and proper food preparation techniques.

Community-Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM): Implement programs that involve the community in identifying and treating acute malnutrition, ensuring better reach and sustainability. Micronutrient Supplementation: Distribute vitamins and mineral supplements, such as Vitamin A, iron, and folic acid, to address micronutrient deficiencies.

School Feeding Programs: Provide nutritious meals or snacks in schools to improve children’s nutrition and encourage school attendance. Create support groups for breastfeeding mothers to promote exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months and continued breastfeeding along with complementary foods.

Emergency Nutrition Kits: Distribute emergency nutrition kits containing ready-to-eat therapeutic foods and essential vitamins and minerals during emergency crises.

HERCO significantly improve the nutritional status and overall well-being of both IDPs and the hosting community.
