HERCO plays a vital role in protecting IDPs through various initiatives including: –
Safety Measures: Set up safe spaces and shelters for vulnerable groups, including women and children. Train staff and volunteers to recognize and respond to signs of abuse and exploitation. Work with local authorities and security forces to enhance the safety and security of IDP camps and settlements.
Legal Assistance: Provide legal aid and support to help IDPs obtain necessary documentation, such as identity papers, birth certificates, and property deeds. Advocate for the rights of IDPs at local, national, and international levels to ensure their protection and inclusion in legal frameworks.
Psychosocial Support: Offer counseling services and support groups to help IDPs deal with trauma and stress. Implement community-based mental health programs that engage IDPs in activities promoting psychological well-being.
