HERCO plays a vital role in protecting IDPs through various
initiatives including: –
Safety Measures: Set up safe spaces and shelters for
vulnerable groups, including women and children. Train staff and volunteers to
recognize and respond to signs of abuse and exploitation. Work with local
authorities and security forces to enhance the safety and security of IDP camps
and settlements.
Legal Assistance: Provide legal aid and support to
help IDPs obtain necessary documentation, such as identity papers, birth
certificates, and property deeds. Advocate for the rights of IDPs at local,
national, and international levels to ensure their protection and inclusion in
legal frameworks.
Psychosocial
Support: Offer counseling services and support groups to help IDPs deal
with trauma and stress. Implement community-based mental health programs that
engage IDPs in activities promoting psychological well-being.
Access to Services: Ensure that IDPs have equal
access to healthcare, education, and other essential services. Collaborate with
other organizations and government agencies to provide integrated support
services that address the diverse needs of IDPs.
Advocacy and
Awareness: Conduct awareness campaigns to inform IDPs of their rights and
the available support services. Advocate for policies and practices that
protect and promote the rights of IDPs, ensuring they are not marginalized or

Sustainable Solutions: Work towards durable solutions
for IDPs, such as safe and voluntary return, local integration, or
resettlement.
